Battle!Integra

July 23, 2008
Success! Integra is now almost finished, all that remains is to buy a zipper for the pants and to add the insignia. I found a belt at Goodwill that'll do until I find something longer that'll accommodate her sword. But, the main part of the uniform is finished! I'm glad to say that I didn't have to add the interfacing, after all, and it still looks rather fantastic, if I do say so myself. I wasn't able to find a toy gun that looked anything like a real gun, so I'm just going to have to keep looking.
I have some (bad) pictures which show the finished work on the uniform. ^^

No picture updates...no real progress in the past week or so, but I've done a bit more research. I'm close to finishing...I want to go back and add some interfacing, do a bit more tailoring so it fits better, shorten the sleeves, add the insignia and rank, and make the belt. Otherwise, she's finished.
I do really want to make an accurate, or as close to accurate as I can get, replica of her Beretta SD93B. I've looked all over for one online, but the only one I found was an AirSoft gun that was on sale for $56. O.o Besides that, some conventions don't allow AirSoft guns, so if I did end up getting it, I'd still run the chance that I might not be able to carry it at the Con. Rather defeats the purpose.
So, what I've decided to do is buy a cheapo toy gun at the grocery store and modify it. Eventually I'll make a better one out of cardboard, per Featherweight's instructions in his new book
The Sword, The Gun, and the Shield. But, I don't have time to do that before A-fest, so cheapo gun it is.

Okay, so I splurged. I was at Wal-Mart and took a detour to the fabric section. Lo and behold, they just happened to have the perfect field gray suiting fabric, for $2/yard!!! I had to buy it. I got the rest of the bolt, which was only a pitiful 2 5/8 yard. :-/ I think I can manage to squeeze everything out of it, since it's 60" wide, but I'll have to scrimp like a pauper to make it work. I'm just lucky that Wal-Mart doesn't carry Butterick patterns, because I would have bought that coat pattern and started on Integra the minute I got home. I'll just have to sit quietly until Monday or so, work on other things that need to be finished, and then start on Integra when I get my hands on that pattern.

I don't know what made me suddenly want to cosplay Integra, but I really, really want to. I think it was when this really fantastic Alucard posted A-kon pics on Cosplay.com. It lead me back into the world of Hellsing, and I came across Integra's battle outfit. It's pretty freaking sweet. Thankfully, another cosplayer already did a boatload of research on it and learned that it was based off the SS feldbluse, so finding pictures of German uniforms made working things out much easier.
I have some fabric that I'm going to use for this. It's not perfect, as I wanted the 'field gray' colour of the original SS uniforms, but I can't find anyone that supplies that fabric anymore (the one reenactor site that used to supply it doesn't anymore) and I don't have the time or money to make a trip into town to search through the fabric store. So, I took the fabric from an old Victorian walking suit that I butchered last year, and I'll be making my cosplay from that.
I should, hopefully, be starting on this tomorrow. I intend to finish up some other costuming stuff tomorrow, too, so I should be able to scratch something off the proverbial to-do list. ^^
