Well, it's come time for me to close up shop. I've been doing costume commission work for almost 11 years now, but I just can't do it anymore. Not with sewing anyway.
I noticed earlier this year that my hands were starting to hurt when I was cutting out fabric. I largely ignored it and kept plugging right along, but after TrekCon, I took a break and let my hands get their mojo back while focusing on schoolwork. But I eventually did start sewing again, and there was that same pain all over again. It's not carpel tunnel, as many have suggested, as I'm fine when I type, or sculpt, or do other things, but feels more like pinched nerves along the outside edges of my fingers. I don't know what could have caused it, and it's slowed my production time waaaaay down. (You may have noticed many of the projects that I post about taking a lot longer than usual.) What used to take me a matter of days or weeks, is now stretched out to months of work.
So, I'm closing up shop. I can't offer good turn-around times anymore, so it's for the best. I'll keep sewing for myself, as I usually don't set deadlines for myself (and if I do, then they're waaaay in the future), and posting about my projects here, so the blog will live on, but I just won't take costume orders anymore.
