I'll have a 2012 wrap-up post on the last day of the year (not to far away!), but for now, I want to look forward to what I'll be working on in the next year.
At the beginning of 2012, I said something about this being The Year of the Prop. Well, that didn't exactly materialize as I had hoped, with all my prop projects going unfinished even now. I'm hoping to change that now that I have closed my commissions and have a steady job and income again, which means I'll be able to finally purchase the supplies that I need to work on them again. So, hopefully, that means wrapping up the Cleopatra headdress and the Hounds and Jackals game set, before moving on to new things.
Secondly, this year is going to be heavily dedicated to building and establishing my new SCA persona, an 11th century Japanese noblewoman, who has yet to be named. (I love the name Kaede, but I have no idea what to do for a last name. I need to read some more on Japanese history to see how I want my girl to fit in.) If you remember from a few weeks ago, I decided to undertake the A&S 50 challenge, which I originally planned to be a 'depth' challenge, where you make 50 of the same sort of thing, but hone your skill while doing so. I was going to do garb. But, once I started researching Heian...everything...this quickly morphed into the 'persona' challenge, where you make 50 things that your persona would have had/done/made, etc. This will also help me to build up the things I'll need for my encampment, once I start going to longer events.
Here are just a few of the non-garb items I'm planning to make:
Lanterns! Easy to make, and more period than those round paper Asian style lanterns.
Pennants, for around the campsite.
This list is by no means definitive, and I'm sure more things will end up added it to it as the year goes on. It will be fun to see how much of the list I was able to check off by the end of the year, though, so I'll probably have a post at the end of 2013 looking back at this one and, most likely, lamenting how little of I actually finished. ;p
